Autumn is the most comfortable and most popular season among travelers in Taiwan. From October to January, it is considered the peak season in Taiwan to enjoy maple trees and take hot spring baths. The view of red maple leaves on the mountains is fascinating and if one can have the leisure to take a hot spring bath, it would surely be relaxing, helping the body and mind to be greatly liberated.

Who says that one must go to Japan for maple appreciation and taking hot spring baths? For Filipino travelers, Taiwan is reckoned as the nearest and most inexpensive place to appreciate wonderful scenery as well as to sight the marvelous maple. The green maple of Taipingshan is very special for it displays in dark purple starting from fresh leaves. It is considered the area where visitors can enjoy maples in all seasons. When it is August to October, there will be fullness of red leaves throughout the mountains, so that when travelers stroll through the primeval forest trails of Taipingshan, they can engross themselves watching phytoncide being emitted from cypress, a scenario pursued by many travelers. Furthermore, Hatonozawa Hot Spring on the way from Yilan to Taipingshan is said to be the most beautiful hot spring in Taiwan and its water quality is extremely smooth that those who love taking hot spring-bath should find the trip there most worthwhile.

Wuling Farm is the most recommended spot for the appreciation of alpine maple. During its four seasons at Wuling Farm, there are different ways to enjoy it – as spring flowers, summer fruit, autumn maple, and winter plum. Autumn red-maple stacked along the stream which has the richest ecosystem, makes people want to linger. As for nearby Wuling Fuye Resort, one can be entertained by high-mountain concert performances every day.

At central Taiwan, there are also areas for hot spring and maple appreciation at Taian of Miaoli as well as along the neighborhood to Shei-pa National Park. Aowanda and Qingjing Farm at Nantou are two other famous spots for such activities. Aowanda is known for maple appreciation in Taiwan. The surrounding Wanda Reservoir is noted for its beautiful waters and mountains, whereas visitors can stay at Qingjing Farm to enjoy the scenery or try out the gourmet delicatessens at the small town of Puli along the way.

As for the newly developed Skywalk by Nantou County Government, one can take a hike to not only enjoy the entire mountain with abundant red leaves of Qingjing, but also the autumn colors of Hehuanshan ridges.

In addition, the Visitor Center of Shei-pa National Park itself is a scenic spot for maple appreciation. Shei-pa Resort, with an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters, has not only as gorgeous wonder and beauty as that of Wuling Farm in terms of its four-season fruits, one can also find blooming red maple leaves at Dabajian Mountain. Along the way, visitors can enjoy hot spring at Qing Quan hot spring area.
