THE Sisters of Mary School (SMS) Aloysians will be going to Bali, Indonesia in September after topping the International Basketball Foundation (IBF) Youth Leaders Cup 3x3 Basketball Tournament on Sunday, July 28, 2019.
SMS already sealed the slot in Indonesia even before the championship match as two of the school’s representatives defeated their foes in the semifinals.
SMS-Team 1 sneaked past the SMS-Team 9, 22-15, in an all-SMS championship game at the SMS-Girlstown basketball field in Talisay City, Cebu.
The champion team was composed of C-Jay Gonzalez, Ryan Dizo, Delight Espino and Jenny Amor Baslan.
Gonzalez led the way for SMS-Team 1 as he canned in 17 points, including a game-winner that punctuated the mixed 3x3 basketball tournament.
SMS-Team 1 made it to the championship round after beating Compre A, 21-10, in the semifinals. SMS-Team 1 beat Compre B, 16-10 in the quarters, after topping the elimination round with a clean 3-0 (win-loss) record.
SMS-Team 9, meanwhile, earned the finals seat after beating Ateneo de Davao, 21-20, in the semis. SMS- Team 9 had the winning shot over Ateneo de Davao.
The one-day 3x3 tournament was joined by 24 teams from Cebu, Davao, Bohol, Tacloban and Guimaras. RSC
