2 killed, 4 wounded in Mansilingan stabbing

DUE to misunderstanding, two persons were killed while four others were wounded in stabbing incident in Purok Punay, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City Sunday evening, July 28.

Police identified the fatalities as Denmark Duerme, 25, and Riza Bunghanoy, 38. Wounded were Dennis Duerme, 50, and his two children Justine, 24, and Jino, 21; and Samuel Bunghanoy, 40, all residents of Purok Punay, Barangay Mansilingan.

Police Major Sherlock Gabana, chief of Police Station 7, said Monday that on Sunday morning, Riza had a heated argument with her neighbor over a drainage near their house.

“Due to loud noise, Dennis suddenly went outside and tried to pacify Riza and their neighbor, but Samuel also went outside and confronted Dennis,” he said.

He added that around 9 p.m., while Dennis was having drinking session with his children and their friends, he mentioned the incident and one of his sons, Denmark, went to the house of Samuel and challenged him to a fight and threw a bottle of beer to Samuel’s house.

Gabana said when Samuel went outside his house, the family of Denmark along with his friends attacked him using a bladed weapon.

Samuel fought back and managed to run inside his house and he was hugged by his wife, Riza, however, one of Denmark’ friends who was identified as Bing-Bing Barredo, followed him and attacked his wife using a bladed weapon and fled.

All of them sustained multiple wounds.

Denmark along with his father and two brothers as well as Samuel and Riza were rushed to the Corazon Locson Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, but Denmark and Riza did not survive.

Gabana said that Dennis and his two children, and Samuel are still confined in the hospital and now in stable condition.

Police recovered a kitchen knife from the scene of the crime.

Gabana said they are still conducting a follow-up operation to arrest Barredo who may be charged for murder and frustrated murder.

He said that Samuel can file murder and frustrated murder against Duerme’s family, while Duerme’s family can also file homicide and multiple frustrated homicide against Samuel.
