Yanson matriarch hits Roy, siblings on VTI takeover attempts

THE matriarch of the Yanson family Tuesday, July 30, renewed her call on her four children--Roy, Emily, Ricardo, Jr. and Celina--to patiently wait for the court’s decision instead of mounting attempts to take control of the family business using “goons” and intimidation because they are just embarrassing themselves before the eyes of the public.

The Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) is under the Yanson Group of Bus Companies (YGBC) which owns the Ceres buses and four other bus companies.

“They should be embarrassed; they should show some degree of decency because their illegal acts leave a bad taste on the mouth. Imagine how shameful it is to defy and disrespect your mother, who is still very much alive. I and my late husband, Ricardo, Sr., painstakingly labored so hard to put up our business; to make it successful. Today, my four children simply want to kick me off to one dark corner and maltreat me. They forgot the struggles I went through to raise all of them. Be fearful of God’s wrath. Have shame,” Olivia lamented.

The public knows why the four are after full control of Ceres, she said, adding that even if she won’t spell out their intentions, people know what their motivations are.

They always argue that their intention is to preserve family unity and protect the legacy of their father. But on the contrary, their actions speak otherwise, Olivia pointed out.

“You tell that to the Marines. I was not born yesterday. What are you so concerned about when you claimed you want to ensure the success of the family business? Leo Rey, as YGBC president, already made Ceres a huge success. Where were you the last 12 years when Leo Rey made strides, expanded the business exponentially and kept your wallets and bank accounts fat? You were just sitting idly waiting for your dividends. So, please show some decency. Have shame,” the matriarch added.

Pray to God and ask forgiveness, she said, “for the shame you have caused this family and to your father; for the sleepless nights you have caused to your other siblings and to the families of the 18,000 workers, drivers and conductors whom you had held as hostages these past weeks. Have mercy on your employees who work day and night just so you can have sumptuous meals on your tables and embrace the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Have shame,” Olivia said.

Olivia is in Dumaguete City Wednesday to assess the VTI operations after Roy and Ricardo, Jr. used force by employing blue guards and armed plainclothes “goons” believed to be former military men who took control of the Ceres garage and terminal in Barangay Bagacay before midnight of July 25.

But Olivia and Leo Rey’s camp regained control of the facilities July 28, prompting Roy to “cry” for help from PNP chief Oscar Albayalde.

Olivia said she would have reacted differently if Roy and Ricky did not use intimidation and force that put at risk the lives of people in the premises during their illegal operation.

She said, “I have every right under the law to charge them with trespassing because that property is titled under my name.”

Meaning, the property on which the garage and other facilities were built on are my personal properties. They will have to be accountable for their illegal actions under the law, she argued.

After taking over Dumaguete for a brief period, Olivia’s four children attempted again to control the North Terminal on July 26 but they did not succeed.

On the part of Roy Yanson, in a statement he said, “I strongly deny the allegations made by my brother, Leo Rey Yanson, former president and director of Vallacar Transit Inc., that my brother Ricky Yanson Jr. and I committed grave infractions of the law last July 26.”

He said that irrefutable facts which the media witnessed last Friday (July 26) bear the strongest refutation of Leo Rey’s words.

“Leo Rey’s statements are pure hogwash. I will not dignify his charges with an answer. His lies are even unimaginative. The facts are clear—he, together with elements of the AGNSA security firm and about 20 members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of the Dumaguete City police did, indeed, effect illegal arrests and did execute acts which disrupted bus operations in the Ceres bus terminal in Bagacay Dumaguete City,” Roy further said.

Further he raised, “It is the camp of Leo Rey, assisted by our mother, Olivia, who is causing this harm upon the company and its employees by refusing to respect and recognize the law.”

Roy pointed that the law is clear -- the board of directors of Vallacar Bus Transit has lost its trust and confidence behind the leadership of Leo Rey Yanson after failing to explain numerous illicit withdrawals of company funds amounting to millions of pesos.

“By claiming and asserting that he is the recognized president of this company is in direct contravention with the decision of the management, a direct contempt of the law and the courts. As his brother, I urge Leo Rey to desist from further harming himself, his family, friends and loved ones. Let the courts listen to him and his outrageous lies,” Roy added. (TDE)
