Air Force spikers set to defend title

GOOD-LOOKING Myla Pablo, one of the country’s certified volleyball stars, is set to reinforce anew the Philippine Air Force-Manila in defending the women’s open crown of the annually-held Higalaay Volleyball in Cagayan de Oro City.

With a whooping P80,000 cash plus trophy awaiting each of the men and women’s team champions, the keenly-awaited 3rd Cagayan de Oro Fiesta Volleyball Open Tournament will be slated August 23 to 26 at the Corpus Christi gym in Macasandig and the nearby Nazareth gym.

Last year, Pablo and the Pocari Sweat-backed Philippine Air Force had the Kagay-anon crowd on their feet when they dominated the women’s rivalry of the pre-fiesta tourney that now offers some P400,000 in total cash prizes.

They will lead again an initial cast of 16 women volleyball teams vying for the coveted honors, including the Philippine Army-Manila, Good Health-Manila, Harbor Pilots-Cebu, BDO-Cebu, JMC-Davao, Anytime Fitness Abreeza-Davao, Awol de Davao-Dvo, General Santos City, CJC Lions-Digos, BPO/CdeO Youth, IMCC-Iligan, Xavier University-CDO, PCC-CDO, Deltas-CDO and St. Alexius College of Marbel.

“They’re (local fans) getting more excited to witness the Philippine volleyball stars displaying wares in the City of Gold. Andam na sab ang mga tickets sa maong kalingawan,” said tournament organizer Alex Adeva.

The 3rd Higalaay Volleyball Open stakes P80,000, P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000 for the top four performing teams in each category.

Already listed in men’s division are the Good Health-Manila, Philippine Army-Manila, Philippine Navy A-Manila, Philippine Navy B-Manila, RGV Ormoc-Manila/Cebu, Aisha Legends-Davao, Equi Parco-MisOr, Invictus-MisOr/Cebu, Exodus-CDO/Manila, IMCC-Iligan, STC-Tagum City and CDO Youth-CDO/Cebu with the addition of PCC-CDO, EAC-Manila, UM-Davao City and Zamboanga City.
