Ferrer says PCL contenders should perform first

“PERFORM first in your localities before wanting to lead provincial-wide groups.”

This was the advice of Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer to local officials wanting to lead the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) and the League of Municipalities (LMP) provincial chapters.

“Local officials already have many responsibilities. These posts are just additional obligations. Check if they are doing something in their towns and cities,” the vice governor said.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson confirmed that Love Negros will field Silay Councilor Ryan Gamboa for the presidency of the LMP-Negros Occidental chapter

Gamboa, a former TV anchor of ABS-CBN, will be going up against Sagay City Councilor Arthur Marañon of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA).

Marañon is the son of former Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr.

Whoever wins in the PCL election will get a seat in the Sanggunian Panlalawigan.

“May the best man win,” Ferrer, president of Unega, said.

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, secretary general of Unega agreed with Ferrer that those wanting to lead the two organizations for local officials “should perform first.”

Escalante also confirmed that their party will field San Enrique Mayor Jerson Tubillara for the LMP presidency.

Tubillara will be up against Valladolid Mayor Enrique Mirravales of Love Negros.

Pressed if Unega has the numbers to make their candidates win, Escalante said “Both camps have the numbers.”

“The numbers of the present SP won’t count. Besides we are on a merger. It just so happened that a mayor from UNEGA is interested of running. The same with the PCL,” he said. (TDE)
