NCCA holds national seminar on culture-based teaching

THE National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), through the Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP), in partnership with Barasoain Kalinangan Foundation Inc. (BKFI), Department of Education (DepEd), Regional Offices, local schools, and LGUs, held a three-day seminar on culture-based teaching in selected sites from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao this July.

This culture-based teaching seminar titled Pagsasanay sa Edukasyong Pangkultura (PEP) aims to utilize bodies of knowledge in Philippine culture in creating, developing and disseminating contextualized instructional materials, modules, and other learning resources for the cultural education of Filipinos here and abroad; to provide comprehensive and continuing education programs on culture for trainers, teachers, artists, cultural workers, civic leaders, and government officials and workers; and to underscore the significance and ensure the implementation of the cultural heritage education provisions of the Heritage Law (RA 10066).

For the Luzon leg, Isabela State University housed the seminar from July 8 to 10, 2019; in Visayas, seminar took place at the Cebu Normal University from July 15 to 17, 2019; and at the Xavier University Grade School Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro in Mindanao from July 22 to 24, 2019.
