RESIDENTS of Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental will soon enjoy internet access in some public places following an agreement between the City Government and the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) last week to have free Wi-Fi hotspots by end of August.

Gingoog City information officer Nicole Managbanag said the areas where internet will become accessible have already been identified. These include the vicinity of city hall, city library, plaza and bay walk.

Managbanag said these areas will enjoy a 14 mbps internet speed.

Managbanag added the DICT was given the discretion to partner with any telecommunication company or internet service providers for the said purpose.

“Walay gipagawas nga pondo ang City Government ani kay libre mani tanan,” she added.

Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa emphasized the importance of free Wi-Fi access, especially in emergency situations and for those who have loved ones abroad.

He said residents of Gingoog City should not be deprived of the technological advancements.

But for city hall employees, Cañosa warned them to maintain self-discipline to ensure public service will remain unhampered.

“Dapat i-disiplina gyud ang kaugalingon ug kinahanglan naay saktong oras paggamit sa internet nga dili mabalda ang panarbaho,” Cañosa said.
