THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said a low pressure area (LPA) has been spotted east of the country.

The LPA was monitored 915 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes at 3 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2019.

It is expected to develop into a tropical depression to be named "Hanna" within 48 hours.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in Bicol Region, Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao due to the trough of the LPA.

Pagasa issued a yellow rain alert at 2 p.m. Friday in Metro Manila as well as in the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Batangas due to monsoon rains.

A yellow warning means flooding is possible in low-lying areas and near river channels.

Light to moderate rains are also expected over Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Quezon provinces.

Pagasa also advised the public and disaster risk reduction and concerned management offices "to take precautionary measures and monitor for updates." (EZN/SunStar Philippines)
