STUDENTS and fitness enthusiasts will once again converge for the 14th edition of the University Run on Sept. 8, 2019 at the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) campus at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

“We make the race as safe as possible by not going out to the highway. The route will pass by the school and within Mandani Bay,” said Cebu Doctors’ Group of Hospitals president and Run For Sight chairman Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III at Friday’s press conference.

The run highly known for its bridge challenge, has been doing short distance races just within the campus since 2017.

“As we know, the traffic is getting worse. You can’t do the bridge course without road closure. But with the current plans for an LRT (Light Rail Transit), led by the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino, maybe we can do the long distance again with a full road closure in the future,” he said.

The 14th edition will feature the 10-kilometer, 5K and 3K categories. The 10K and 5K races will have the open, alumni and employees divisions, while the 3K will have the open and student divisions.

Dr. Philip Larrazabal, the CDU president, said adding the spice this year is the cheerdance competition among seven teams. The run will still have the usual water booth contest.

Also present in the press conference were Cathy Vestil (CDU P.E teacher), Tanet Badilles (CDU Human Resource Department), Stanley Dipay, Arnold Choachoy (Sunsports) and Joel Juarez (race director).

“As an alumnus of the school, I’m also looking forward to this event. I hope that the alumni will come out and take part in this fun run. The course will be easy and flat,” said Juarez.

Larrazabal said the race targets the usual number of participants, which is around 2,500 to 3,000.

The proceeds of the race will be used for the Run For Sight Foundation’s medical missions. Last year, the team went to San Carlos City and for this year, the team is planning to go to Leyte next year.

Registration fee is P600 for the 10K, P500 for the 5K and P300 for the 3K. (RSC)
