Feeling fancy at Macaron 5

EVERYONE’S got a particular preference when it comes to desserts, but there are those we turn to for different occasions and reasons: chocolates to mend a broken heart, cookies because we like them nice and gooey, and the occasional cheesecake because it’s, well—it’s cheesecake!

But there are desserts that we not only crave for but also want because it makes us feel fancy. French macarons definitely fit the bill! It’s colorful, light, with just the right amount of crunchiness to chewiness. It was a dessert inaccessible for some time until recent years, when restaurants and hotels in the city started including them in the menu.

Selling macarons in two-toned fashion is Macaron 5, a new one to watch out for in the city. The brand was officially conceptualized over a cup of coffee by founders Kobi Choi, Ressa Jimenez and Adrian Diongzon, while listening to a song on the radio by the band Maroon 5.

For its part, Macaron 5 promises freshly baked macarons every day and currently has eight two-toned flavors patrons can choose from— Strawberry, Blueberry, Mango, Salted Caramel, Mint, After 8, Pistachio and Passion Fruit, with plans to add more to the mix. Craving something else? It also has Strawberry and Blueberry Cheesecakes.

“Our macarons in The Pyramid has really good following, so we thought of bringing it to the mall. We now have kiosks for Macaron 5 in Coffee Prince and now Ayala,” shared Diongzon.

Patrons who want to indulge in its selections right then and there can do so by sitting on its macaron-inspired seats at the back part of the kiosk. Pair them with its selection of teas if the mood to have an impromptu tea party strikes.

Macaron 5 is on the second level of Ayala Center Cebu.
