PLANS to convert the former dumpsite into an eco-park are now under study.
Baguio City Administrator Boni Dela Pena confirmed plans submitted by the city engineering office are now under study.
“We will study the plans and give our feedback on it,” said Dela Pena.
Dela Pena added the vision for the Irisan dump is to become a park for all to enjoy, taking into consideration safety with the foundation the area is grounded in waste.
The plans submitted to Dela Pena includes provisions for “dap-ay” for gatherings and talks, a children’s park, food hubs, a nursery for planting herbs, ornamental plants, landscaping and a view deck.
Dela Pena said the use of the park will also continue to function as an area to process biodegradable waste into compost with the use of the ERS machines.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has given the city an ultimatum to the city on the use of the decommissioned Irisan dump.
Dela Pena said the timeline of the DENR order has since been moved to give the city as realistic chance to set into place what is needed at the area.
DENR has also ordered to clear or haul out all accumulated stored and mixed waste material [raw compost mixed with plastics] and to install and operationalize all equipment and machines.
DENR warned the Irisan dump must only house biodegradable waste and no storage of any residual waste outside the ERS facility.
The environment agency added conversion of the closed Irisan dumpsite into an environment friendly eco - park should be accomplished.
Dela Pena said the city is moving to accomplish all agreements made with the environment department and assured plans for the Irisan dump will be made public once final.
