Session road closed on Sundays

A ONE month experiment to test the viability of pedestrianizing Session road will start Sunday, August 4.

Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the lane going up Session road will be closed every Sunday for the month of August mainly, to check improvements in air quality as well as see if traffic closure to the road will become an option in the future.

The mayor said the experiment will last a month and will then decide on the matter of pedestrianizing with the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) and the Traffic Management Team of the city.

The BCPO in an advisory said the experimental scheme will start August 4 from six in the morning until nine in the evening from the road going up the Development Bank of the Philippines at the Mercury Drug atop Session road.

Formerly, businesses along the two-kilometer stretch opposed closing the road to traffic saying it will be difficult to receive and dispatch deliveries, however, Magalong said business in the area will be able to utilize the other lane of the road for deliveries.

The road will be closed to vehicular every Sunday and will be used by pedestrians only.

The Session Road and Mabini intersection shall be the only street that will be open to traffic for vehicles from General Luna Street exiting to Harrison road.

Magalong said a reclaiming of sidewalks will be done all over the city to give more chances for people to freely walk around and enjoy the city.

The mayor said “We encourage people to walk.”
