The Road to Happiness

I’M THE type of person that always has so many questions about everything in life and it frustrates me that I never have the answers. Recently, I question about how to achieve happiness in life. People always gave me vague answers about what happiness is, saying how different it is for each person. While I understand that part, I do not exactly know how to achieve it.

I get confused on whether the activities that make me relax are also the activities that make me happy. Listening to music and watching TV shows are some ways for me to be relaxed and they do make me happy for a moment. But then, I realize that I cannot do these things continuously because I get sidetracked from other obligations. My heart feels empty after the realization.

Then I wondered about how to make these moments longer. I found one way to do so is by making a goal that involves self-growth. I shift my focus towards hobbies such as dancing hip hop or ballet and writing about personal feelings or fictional stories. It is when I do these things that I feel the happiest.

I often wish that I could stop time so that I could fully enjoy my happy moments. We live in such a fast-paced world that it feels like there is not a lot of time to do everything. Slowing down feels like I am being left behind by my peers. Some people do the things they do because they must do it, not because they want to. These actions stress people out and their energy is drained. Stress would lead to frustrations and tiredness. This is clearly a bad thing. But I come to see that these kinds of feelings are present so that people are aware of what happiness feels like.

I have yet to start my adult life so I do not have enough experience to define my own happiness. Yet, that will not stop me from trying to discover what truly makes me happy. Happiness is not always felt instantly. I realized that patience is important to gain long-term happiness. I am also aware that I should not forget to focus on the present while picturing a future. For now, I am going to treasure the little things that keep me happy.

One thing to keep in mind: no other person can tell you what truly makes you happy.
