IT WAS a busy month celebrating art, food, fashion and milestones. A good mix of everything that can make anyone smile.

Art

Two art exhibits were in the July calendar. Art Portal offered an all-women exhibit which presented the artworks of 15 artists expressing their personal narratives. At Morning Light Gallery, four artists (which I’m a big fan of) presented their diaries in visual form. I wish I could take all their works home.

This Art Hunt Davao 2019 at the Sanctuary Pavilion in Ma-a on August 10 and 11, you may find the artwork you’ve been searching for. This is also an ideal time to connect with the Davao artists.

Fashion

Chimes became the second outlet of designer Mark Bumgarner’s RTW line, Bumgarner Studios. The flagship store is at Greenbelt 5. This gives the Mindanao fashion set access to the must-have pieces of the designer.

Uniqlo reopened with a bigger store space and wider #LifeWear offering. The store has doubled its size from 700sqm to more than 1,400sqm with an inventory of 500 styles from the previous 300. Children’s wear is now on the racks.

Milestones

With disco as the theme celebrant Lena Benedicto was the queen. It was glittery night for her in more ways than one and every reason was a cause to celebrate. Lena was surrounded with family and dearest friends, people who she drew strength from during a personal struggle. How appropriate is the theme chosen for her after she overcame a challenge and rose up shining?

Food

Kadayawan month is always something forward to. Cuisine always play a big part and the chefs’ culinary skills shine as they whip up new Davao-inspired dishes.

Before July ended, I got to sample Seda’s Chef Bang’s masterful re-interpretation of Pinoy cuisine using ingredients bountiful in Davao. Since I’m a dessert monster I always look forward to her sweet concoctions. I fell in love with these goodies: Turon with Chocnut Glaze, Banana Dulce de Leche Parfait and Tablea Chocolate Moist Cake. There are more on the Misto’s menu to feast on this August.
