THE Central Visayas Football Association (CVFA) kept alive its bid for a spot in the national finals after beating the Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa), 3-2, in the Philippine Football Federation Boys 15 Stars of the Future at the Panaad Park and Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019.

CVFA, which was fresh from a road loss to the Negros Oriental Siquijor Football Association (Nosirfa) the week before, finally found its groove and avenged its opening home loss to Nofa with Simon del Camp, Mark Zafra and captain Vaughn York Pacaña all finding their marks.

Though still at third place in the five-team field, CVFA improved to seven points, just two points away from Nosirfa. Nofa, which suffered its first home loss, still leads the standings with 13 points on five matches.

With still three games left, CVFA still has a fighting chance to make it to the top two and bag a seat in the national finals later this year.

On Aug. 10, CVFA will host Iloilo FA and will be hoping to get the full three points after drawing their match in the first round. It will then visit bottom dweller Eastern Visayas Regional Football Association (EVRFA) before closing out its campaign with a home match against Nosirfa.

Nosirfa will also play Nofa and EVRFA before traveling to Cebu. The final game will determine which team bags the second spot in the national finals. (ML)
