BACOLOD City Police Office (BCPO) director Police Colonel Henry Binas urged the business establishment owners in the city to install high-definition (HD) closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to help solve street crimes.
Binas said a lot of crimes can be easily solved through the use of CCTVs, which can capture the identity of the perpetrators.
“CCTV is a big help to determine the identity of the perpetrators in the crimes like shooting, robbery, theft, among others,” he said.
Last month, a businessman was killed by unidentified assailants on motorcycle at Corner 17th Street, B.S Aquino Drive, Barangay 7, Bacolod and the police are having difficulty to identify the perpetrators.
Police Captain Leo Estopa, chief of Police Station 2, earlier said that they secured copies of CCTV, but the footages are not clear to identity the perpetrators.
Binas said he already discussed with Councilor Al Victor Espino, chairperson of the City Council committee on peace and order, for the possible amendment of CCTV ordinance, which was passed in 2012.
He said Espino also assured that he will propose an amendment to the policies of CCTV’s ordinance.
Meanwhile, Binas also ordered all the station chiefs to intensify its visibility patrol to prevent the robbery incidents.
This, after last month the “martilyo gang” robbed a pawnshop in Laguna and took about P84 million worth of jewelries.
Binas also tasked the station chiefs to coordinate with the pawnshop owners within their areas of jurisdiction to discuss the security measures and to ensure that they have a CCTV and to alert their security guards.
“We should be vigilant to avoid similar incident, let us be security conscious all the time,” Binas said.
