IN CULMINATION of this year’s celebration of Nutrition Month in the City of San Fernando, the local government led by Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago and Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, together with the City Nutrition Council (CNC), recognized the 10 best performing Barangay Nutrition Committees during the flag ceremony Monday, August 5, 2019.

The awardees were Barangay Del Pilar, headed by Captain Jerry Canlas, for large category; Barangay Dela Paz Norte, headed by Captain Wilzen Samia, for medium category; and Barangay Lara, headed by Captain Carlito Manabat, for small category.

Other barangays that were awarded were Baliti, Quebiawan, Magliman, Saguin, Sindalan, Alasas and Sto. Rosario.

Meanwhile, Luna Quitor of Barangay Malpitic was hailed as the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar, besting 83 other scholars from different barangays in the city.

The CNC shared that the awardees were carefully evaluated based on the set criteria by the National Nutrition Council which ensures that health and nutrition programs are implemented and delivered to the community, thus, giving adequate care to the nutritionally vulnerable.

In his speech, EdSa lauded all the barangay officials and health workers for their commitment to provide basic health and nutrition services to their constituents. He also noted that the country’s malnutrition issue can be best resolved with the involvement of the grassroots level.

“Natutuwa ako sa aktibong partisipasyon ng ating mga barangay sa pagpapanatili ng isang masigla at malusog na syudad. Isa ang ‘kalusugan’ sa aking 10-point agenda kung kaya’t umaasa ako sa kanilang patuloy na pakikiisa sa lokal na pamahalaan sa paghahandog ng libre at dekalidad na health services sa mga Fernandino ‘from womb to tomb’," he added.
