KALIBO, Aklan -- The Municipal Council of Kalibo is preparing documents necessary for it to get the International Standardization Organization (ISO) certification for improved transparency on legislative processes.

Vice Mayor Cynthia Dela Cruz said they have started to prepare the necessary documents to attain the Quality Management System standard in order for the council to become ISO-certified.

Being an ISO-certified institution means that the agency has maintained a seal of quality and has implemented an internationally-recognized standard, which seeks continuous improvement resulting in higher levels of effectiveness, efficiency, and credibility in public service delivery.

"It is a difficult process but through the cooperation of all the council members and all our legislative staff, this is possible," said Dela Cruz Monday afternoon, August 5, during their session.

The Municipal Council is also coordinating with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), the country’s National Productivity Organization and member of the Technical Working Group on Advocacy and Capability-Building of the Government Quality Management Committee.

The DAP provides training and technical assistance on various productivity and quality improvement, as well as approaches and interventions to government agencies.

If materialized, the Kalibo council would be the first municipal council in Aklan province to attain an ISO.

"After the SB (Sangguniang Bayan), other municipal department agencies will also embark on ISO certification as it's been a long plan of LGU (local government unit), and they allocate budget for that. The local government will do the coordination with the DAP," she added.

In 2018, the Aklan Provincial Government acquired its ISO certificate. (SunStar Philippines)
