Signal disruption during Higalaay Festival

TO ENSURE the safety of the public, the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) has considered signal jamming in major fiesta events.

Police Colonel Henry Dampal, Cocpo chief, said they were considering a temporary shutdown of mobile network services from all telecommunications.

He said it was a security measure that proved effective during the previous festivities.

Tight security was implemented by the police, as they expect an influx of revelers especially on the Carnival Street Dance Competition, Higalaay Street Parade and Floats, and religious processions, among others.

Dampal urged the public to be patient and to follow all the rules set by authorities.

Meanwhile, Mayor Oscar Moreno appealed to the public to understand the slight inconveniences, like heavy traffic, they may encounter due to strict security measures put in place such as additional security checkpoints.

"Our system is not perfect but we're doing everything we can to ensure that our city and people is safe at all times," Moreno said. (PJ Orias)
