THE team from the Philippine Army’s 53rd Engineer Brigade landed as the overall champion during the recently concluded Scaffold Erection Skills Competition.
Organizers of the contest were the Philippine Construction Association–Visayas Chapter, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority 7 and Cebu Contractors Association in collaboration with the Toughmen Workwear Trading. The event was held at the Tesda 7 compound in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City on June 6-8, 2019.
The competition was one of the activities for the Philconstruct Visayas 2019.
Members of the 53rd Engineer Brigade were composed of enlisted personnel—three from the Engineer Support Battalion, one from the 542nd Engineer Construction Battalion and one from the 546th Engineer Construction Battalion.
They bested three big names in the Philippine construction industry: the Megawide Construction Corp., Makati Development Corp. and Primary Structures Company.
Aside from being tthe Scaffold Erection Skills Competition champion, the 53rd Engineer Brigade was also hailed as the winner of the Tube and Coupler Scaffold.
Despite the tough competition, the planning and execution phase were carried out with utmost professionalism, discipline, strategy and teamwork among the members. The five personnel who represented the brigade displayed commendable skills, and they exerted their best as they faced some of the well-equipped construction companies in the country.
The team’s feat brought pride and honor to the brigade and it will resonate in the years to come.
