Army conducts snipers training in Zambo Sur

AT LEAST 275 soldiers from different infantry divisions are undergoing snipers training at Camp Sang-an that houses the Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry Division headquarters in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, military officials said Wednesday, August 7.

Captain Clint Antipala, Army’s 1st Infantry Division information officer, said the Squad Snipers Training Class-3 is being conducted by the Mobile Training Team, Marksmanship Training School of the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command.

He said the training, which started Tuesday, is a six-week course designed to develop the soldiers’ fighting capability particularly in shooting.

Antipala said the training also aims to enhance the participant’s knowledge, skills, attitude and confidence in delivering shots using the standard issued assault rifle R4A3.

Major General Roberto Ancan, Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander, encouraged the participants to take advantage of the training, learn and develop their skills in shooting and remember the core competency, war fighting.

Ancan said the training aims to make the Army equipped, modernized, and highly disciplined. Also, it aims to motivate them in establishing a respectable image and being capable of addressing all internal and external security threats.

“Bear in mind that many people sleep peacefully at night because there are men stand ready to protect them and that is our sworn oath,” Ancan told the training participants.

“Be technically and tactically proficient. Apply what you have learned in the training. Hit the armed enemy who continue to sow terror to our communities,” he said. (SunStar Philippines)
