PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte flew to Iloilo City on Wednesday, August 7, to visit the wake of some people who died after three motorized bancas capsized off Iloilo and Guimaras.

Duterte arrived at Gegato Abecia Funeral Homes Wednesday night to visit the wake of 13 out of 31 people who perished in the incidents.

The President, who was scheduled to visit the wake of other victims of the sea mishap in Guimaras, was unable to go to Jordan due to inclement weather.

The sinking of the three bancas happened Saturday, August 3, due to strong winds and powerful waves in the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait.

Motorboats M/B Chi-Chi and Keziah capsized past noon Saturday, while M/B Jenny Vince sank few hours later.

The Iloilo City Council has sought an inquiry into the recent sea tragedy in a bid to come up with preventive and remedial measures.

On Monday, August 5, MalacaƱang directed the Philippine Coast Guard, the Maritime Industry Authority, and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to provide immediate assistance to the victims of the sea tragedy and refine their coordination efforts in safeguarding the security of the public especially during this rainy season.
