THE Medical City Clark (TMCC) now offers genomics testing, a procedure that can detect the possibility of chronic diseases like cancer.

Dr. Jacqueline Angeles, medical director of TMCC, said genomics testing is done by extracting blood to reveal a patient's genetic profile.

"Then, we will see from the gene profile a person's propensity to have cancer, cardiovascular diseases and/or kidney diseases," Angeles said during the Pampanga Press Club's monthly press briefing at Widus Hotel and Casino.

Dr. Almario Jabson, president and chief executive officer of TMCC, said genomics testing is an advanced procedure being practiced in first world countries.

"Genomics testing at TMCC is the first of its kind here in Central Luzon," Jabson said.

Jabson said after the testing, TMCC's team of experts will provide nutritional and lifestyle support to a patient, "if not to prevent the disease, delay it."

Aside from genomics testing, other new services at TMCC include nutrient testing and allergy profiling, among others.

TMCC director Angeles said nutrient testing determines whether vitamins and supplements taken by a patient are suitable for his/her nutritional needs.

Meanwhile, allergy profiling determines what substances a patient is allergic to.
