ANGELES City officials led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. cited the hard work of rice farmers in helping achieve food security in the country.

Lazatin, together with Vice Mayor Vicky Vega Cabigting and others, recently joined the city farmers in a one-day experience in hybrid farming.

"Nung ala kayu pu ken makananu tamu pung mangan, para king syudad? Magtapak tamu pu king pamagtanam. Dalanan mi mu rin ing panandaman yu. Bang ming balu. Makanyan ing pagsuporta," Lazatin said.

The “Paaralang Walang Dingding - Farmer Fields School Hybrid Model Farm” is a good program for grain farmers to increase their yield, according to Lazatin.

"Napakagandang programa [nito], na idinala at ginagawa ng Agriculture Office, bang mitas ing yield karas king pamagtanam king kekatamung pale," he added, citing the city government's all-out-support to them.

According to him, Angeleños food security should be always on top of the list.

"Para pamangan eta mu sana kakalingwan. Gyang maburak, masakit ya ing obrang ortelano, mamanga ku keka yu aldo-aldo agyu yu," he added.

Cabigting, for her part, stressed that no food should be wasted because farmers work hard for it.

"Wag tayo magaksaya ng pagkain, bawat butil na nasasayang katumbas ng pagod ng farmers natin," she said.

Councilor Amos Rivera, chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture, shared the views of Lazatin and Cabigting and thanked the farmers for their hard work in producing rice for the city.

City Agriculturist Ericson Dagdag said the Farmer Fields School Hybrid Model Farm is composed of 16 weeks training or informal schooling under a tree. The farmers learn how to cultivate despite climate change.
