28K fake Louis Vuitton goods seized in RP (9:54 p.m.)

MANILA — Fake Louis Vuitton hand bags, leather cases and accessories worth $4.6 million have been seized from a dozen stalls in a shopping mall and two warehouses in the Philippines capital.

The National Bureau of Investigation said more than 28,000 counterfeit items were seized Feb. 24 on a complaint by Louis Vuitton's director for brand enforcement in the Asia-Pacific region.

The report issued Wednesday said the owners and operators of the raided establishments will be charged with violating the country's intellectual property code, which is punishable by up to nine years in prison. How many people would face charges wasn't disclosed.

Counterfeit goods proliferate in Manila's flea markets, where cheap prices attract buyers. (AP)
