Tourism office urged to provide signage for tourist attractions

BACOLOD City Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez urged the City Tourism Office to provide directions and signage for all tourist attractions in the city.

Lopez said the local government units shall prepare local tourism development plans, land use, infrastructure development and standards for tourism enterprises.

“Appealing signage provides an opportunity to promote what our city has to offer,” he said.

He added that well-branded, informative and good signage help attract tourists to their desired destinations and places of interests such as places of worship, including Catholic shrines, Buddhist temples, and Islamic mosques.

Lopez noted that Republic Act No. 9593, also known as Tourism Act of 2009, declares a national policy that tourism is an engine of investment, employment, growth and national development.

Lopez said this act strengthens the Department of Tourism and its attached agencies to effectively and efficiently implement the said policy and appropriate funds.

He said the well-designed street directions leading to tourist destinations shall be visible enough to guide the tourists;

“All fares for the different modes of transport must be printed in a conspicuous part of public utility vehicles,” he added. (MAP)
