Vicente: Keyboard warriors

IN THIS troubled times, a new breed of warriors has emerged and are taking the mainstream by storm. Compared to our real warriors, they are almost untouchable and undefeated.

Their existence is fed by criticizing the life of others as if they know what is really happening and assume many things against a certain person.

These warriors are relentless against their subjects throwing shade on individuals but disappear in the face of threat.

They are good at what they do without even breaking a sweat and are safe from retaliation because they are virtually unknown.

They are fast and idealistically smart, very good in utilizing technology to wreak havoc as they please.

They are present in the world of sports, particularly in martial arts and are preying on unsuspecting “unsung heroes” who sacrifice a lot in their trainings and preparations just to be ready for the competition. Yet, on the sidelines are these “keyboard warriors” waiting for the right moment, like vultures who prey on the weak and helpless but brave enough to take on every athlete and discredit them relentlessly.

In the just concluded ONE Championship “Dawn of Heroes” where only one Team Lakay member emerged victorious and four lost, the keyboards where fast to key in their negative comments and were instant analyst of what should haves and what must be. Pity them for they lack attention, as failure does not mean defeat. This will be treated not as a setback but a “sit back” to have a better look at what lies ahead.

Keyboard warriors earn their “black belts” and “medals” by just working their fingers at the expense of others. They are the most hypocrite people that exist. It seems they are joyed by their comments against other people.

As one adage says, “its better that you tried and failed rather than assume and boast that you can but never tested, it is always easy to talk the talk but is difficult and takes real fortitude to walk the walk.”

So how could these warriors be defeated? Cut off their source of motivation and do not give any attention to whatever they say. Giving them attention and reacting to their odd comments and distractive criticisms only makes them relevant, thus, giving them the right to pursue their agenda. Without attention they are crippled and nonexistent and fail eventually.

Martial artists and other athletes are far better than these nonsense keyboard warriors. Take them as a test of psychological fortitude and give them nothing but silence and let them crawl back to their shell and shut their clatter.
