THE Kadayawan Chess Festival 2019 and the Philippine Executive Chess Association (Peca) National Championships Mindanao Leg will be held on Saturday, August 8, at the Damosa Market Basket in Lanang, Davao City.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto, during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao Thursday, said rated executive chessers from other parts of Mindanao are coming to give locals an uphill contest.

“This is a qualifying for the 2019 GM Rosendo Balinas National Executive Chess Championship grand finals set on November 16 and 17 at Casa Pilar Beach Resort,” he said.

Cash prizes await winners of the two chess events with the champions taking home P10,000 each plus trophies.

While the top 10 placers in the Kadayawan chessfest, sponsored by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office, will receive prizes, only the top five will claim prizes in the Peca meet.

Special awards will also be given away.

Matches will start at 10 a.m. (MLSA)
