Preps shift to high gear for Kadayawan tilt

DAVAO. PREPARATIONS shift to high gear for the 34th Kadayawan Festival 1st International Open Ballroom Dance Championships 2019, dubbed as “Dance Against Drugs”, on August 25 at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City.

Multi-titled Jeanette Ortiz of Filipinas Ballroom Amateur League (FiBa-AL), who recently received the female athlete of the year award in the 25th So Kim Cheng Sports Awards Night, bared this to members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) during their weekly forum at The Annex of SM City Davao Thursday, August 8.

Ortiz, accompanied by Hong Kong-based Filipino Gay Games 2018 champion Ezekiel Vargas, said, “Ten world class pairs from different Asian countries will showcase real Latin and Modern standard ballroom competition. This is the first of its kind to be staged here.”

She thanked Pagcor, Diamond Knights, Department of Tourism and the city government of Davao for helping them pull the ambitious event.

FiBa-AL held a free dancesports workshop to public schools as of yesterday presstime.

At least 150 students will also compete in the solo event of the upcoming Kadayawan spectacle.

Vargas, who is in Davao to help train dancesports beginners, said, “It’s my first time to be invited in Davao City. I’ve been in Hong Kong as a professional dance teacher. It’s a privilege for me to be able to help athletes reach their full potentials.”

He is will be in Davao until this weekend and will return to Hong Kong. Ortiz said Vargas will come back for the international meet. (MLSA)
