Busy chess weekend

LOCAL chess enthusiasts, especially children, will have a grand time pitting wits this coming weekend as two separate tournaments will take place in Cagayan de Oro and the neighboring place of El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.

On Saturday, August 10, the Parents Chess Club in cooperation with the Metro Cagayan Eagles Club will hold a competition for elementary and secondary students at the 2nd floor Green Lane of the Limketkai Mall.

On Sunday, Aug. 11, a similar event will be held in El Salvador City inside the McDonald’s function hall.

“Ang naka tsada sa El Salvador nga tournament kay aside sa mga bata, naay tatluhan para sa mga dagko unya interesting sab ang pa premyo,” said arbiter Jun Cuizon, adding that the three-board rivalry with an average NCFP ratings of 2,000 will stake P20,000 and P10,000 cash prizes plus trophies for the top-two performing teams.

“Human sa Ketkai, sa El Salvador na pud magtigi ang mga bata,” said Tatskie, the ever supportive father of the multi-titled lass, Ruelle “Tawing” Canino of brgy. Kauswagan.

Meanwhile, the Parents Chess Club tourney will have categories for elementary division (Grade 1-6, mixed boys and girls) and high school division (Grade 7-12, mixed boys and girls).
