Transfer of fish vendors to Central Public Market set

ALL the fish vendors at Ballesteros Street in Bacolod City will be transferred inside the Central Public Market starting Sunday, August 11.

This was stressed by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran Thursday during the dialogue with the fish vendors at Ballesteros Street and Central Public Market at the Bacolod Government Center.

Familiaran said the fish vendors were also cooperative that they will be transferred inside the Central Public Market.

“They were given two days to comply all their requirements so they can transfer inside the Central Public Market. They will stay at Ballesteros Street until Saturday,” he said.

He added in Ballesteros Street alone, a total of 95 fish vendors will be given space inside the Central Public Market.

Familiaran said they will prioritize the residents of Bacolod to occupy a space inside the public market.

On Wednesday, about 197 vendors at Burgos Public Market already voluntarily removed their stalls that occupied the roads at Daniel Ramos Street and Burgos Street.

Familiaran said that this is in pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 2019-121 dated July 29, 2019 of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) directing the local government officials from the mayors down to barangay captains to implement the clearing of roads.

He said those who will not be accommodated inside the Central Public Market will be transferred to Vendor’s Plaza.

They will re-open the Vendor’s Plaza to accommodate all the vendors so they can continue their livelihood, he added.

On August 11, the city will also hold a dialogue with the vendors at Libertad Public Market and the demolition will start on August 12 to 14 from the areas of Amelia-Mercedes Streets. The vendors will be transferred inside the Annex Building. (MAP)
