Politicians lauded for campaign conduct on parade

THE Executive Committee (Execom) of the Panagbenga Festival lauded politicians’ compliance to the regulations of the Execom on the conduct of campaigns during the parade.

“We were successful in discouraging them (politicians) from campaigning,” said Anthony de Leon, Panagbenga executive committee chairman.

Anticipating the presence of candidates, the Execom earlier released guidelines for politicians who wish to participate in the parade.

Only incumbent officials of Baguio and trustees of the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc. were allowed to join the parade.

The hordes of visitors who joined the major events of the Panagbenga generated an additional load of garbage.

Aside from the usual litter, political campaign leaflets are added to the volume of the garbage, said de Leon.

Days before the grand street dancing and float parades, campaign leaflets were distributed to the public and were later seen as litter in every street corner of Baguio. (Rimaliza Opiña)
