Session Road closure moved to August 18

BAGUIO City Councilor Benny Bomogao said the four-week experimental closure of Session Road will push through August 18.

Bomogao said the closure of Session Road was referred to the City Council giving favorable review to the proposal provided there should be two weeks information dissemination.

“We will be conducting a traffic experiment in Session Road, August 18. There will be one lane closed from DBP until Post office for four consecutive Sundays,” announced Bomogao during the Cordillera Environment Summit on Thursday.

Bomogao added the objective of the scheme is to measure the quality of air in the area when there are no vehicles traversing Session Road.

Cars passing Session Road will asked to utilize General Luna, Harisson, Bonifacio, and Lake Drive.

After the one month study, Bomogao added an assessment will be made by the council, the city government and the community if the closure of Session Road has positive effect.

“It would depend on the assessment that would be made if there is a need to make it permanent. That’s the time to make consultation. If the assessment is negative we will just discontinue,” quipped Bomogao.

Earlier, the closure was set and announced on August 4, however, Mayor Benjamin Magalong backtracked to close one lane of the road adding concerns will have to be ironed out prior to the implementation of the experimental traffic scheme.
