BEFORE the cash-rich volleyball tourney on August 26, another pre-fiesta chess event will take centerstage on August 17 to 18 at the 2nd floor Green Lane of the Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.

Simply dubbed as “CDO Fiesta Chess Tournament,” it will have Open Team, Kiddies and High School Team, Blitz Individual and Kiddies and Junior Individual categories with around P100,000 in total cash prizes awaiting the winners.

“Kon adunay volleyball ug uban pang gihan-ay nga mga sporting events sa kapistahan, dili sab magpa-gansi ang chess. Suportado gihapon ni Mayor Moreno ang mga chess players,” city chess trainer and organizer Johnnel Balquin told SunStar Cagayan de Oro.

The Open Team event for three boards will have an average NCFP rapid ratings of 2000 with the top-3 performing teams bound to win P25,000, P15,000 and P10,000 each.

Fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh placers will receive P7,000, P5,000, P4,000 and P3,000 apiece, respectively, with the rest of the top-10 finishers out to get P2,000 each.

The top kiddies and junior teams will be given P1,000 each, while the gold medalists on boards 1, 2 and 3 will be awarded with P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000 apiece.

“Daghan pa dugang pa premyo busa among gi invite ang mga interested participants to register early para maka discount,” Balquin said.
