City gov’t rehabs Cell 1 of sanitary landfill

THE Zamboanga City Government is currently rehabilitating Cell No. 1 of its sanitary landfill garbage dumpsite in Salaan village, pending completion of Cell No. 2, now under construction.

Rodrigo Pagotaisidro, public service officer of the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), said the construction of Cell No. 2 is to be completed in two to three months’ time.

Thus, Pagotaisidro said Cell No. 1 is being reconfigured to accommodate the garbage of this city that will be collected in three months period before Cell No. 2 can be used.

He said this is the reason why the city government has withheld the full turnover of the newly-purchased garbage trucks to the villages because space for garbage disposal at the sanitary landfill is yet limited without Cell No. 2.

In the meantime, the OCENR is continuously and religiously collecting garbage following the same route, this time with the help of eight garbage compactor trucks newly-purchased by the city government.

Pagotaisidro said the eight compactor trucks have greatly augmented the garbage collection efficiency of this city. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
