Indigenous farmer killed in Bukidnon

ANOTHER farmer was killed by a still unidentified gunman in Salawagan, Quezon in Bukidnon Friday, August 9.

The regional Lumad group Kalumbay said Alex Lacay, 34, was shot dead while his companion Renard Burgos was able to escape.

Kalumbay said the victim was a member of Kaugalingong Sistema Igpapasindog to Lumadnong Ogpaan (Kasilo), a Lumad organization in the province and a local chapter of Kalumbay.

The group said Lacay and Burgos were on a motorcycle making their way to the public market when they were attacked.

Police investigation, on the other hand, showed that Lacay was heading towards Barangay Salawagan proper to fetch his daughters when he was waylaid by the assailants.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He died on the spot.

Police said the suspects fled on foot after the incident.

Kalumbay accused two soldiers of the crime and called for an end to Lumad killings.

Recovered from the crime scene were four fired cartridge cases of caliber 45 and three fired bullets of same caliber.

The Quezon Town Police is still investigating the incident while pursuit operation is ongoing.
