Fetalvero: The unending cycle

WE CAN readily get waylaid by the P3.5 million pesos lost every day as a result of traffic congestion, thus missing the correlation between population and traffic congestion.

Longevity, teen-age pregnancies and the lack of discipline by married couples contributed to the population of 108.12 million growing at a rate of one birth every 14 seconds. The National Statistics Authority reported that the average household size in 2015 was made up of five members.

Textmate evolution is also a factor to contend with. Text messaging between complete strangers leading to dating, then intimacy resulting to impregnating a partner. I am being obtuse in the discernment about it because I have encountered several housemaids who fell and became willing victims.

The guy, after having fathered a child, moves on to get his next victim through the same modus and the vicious cycle continues. Consider the multiplying effect. There was even no pressure for financial support, and each time, the mother is left to fend for herself and the child. Those who fell victim usually belong to the lower stratum. And these are the people who use public transport.

The 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) aimed to provide conditional cash grants to the poorest of the poor is helpful on one hand but it encourages Filipinos to be complacent since they get financial assistance. They might think they can have as much children as they want. Take note also that these same people do not pay taxes because most are unemployed if not underemployed. Are seminars conducted on responsible parenthood prior to hand-outs of 4Ps?

It has been a while since the government tackled the issue of overpopulation and population control. Quality of life is rarely discussed. Some of our rights as citizens of this country are overlooked.

Sen. Francis Pangilinan, said in an interview on ABS-CBN, is sponsoring a bill which tackles the rights of commuters. The rights of every citizen for efficient and safe travel, free of stress and anxiety. The proposed legislative measure will cover compensation should there be a breakdown of public transportation like the MRT or LRT wherein passengers are forced to walk and sweat it out under dangerous conditions. This, in effect, will promote better maintenance of our public transportation facilities, otherwise the government could be held liable.

Pangilinan also pointed out the disparity between the road users and the roads provided vis-à-vis private vehicles and public transport.
