Suspect shot, killed by security guard

A ROBBERY suspect was killed after he was shot by a security guard on Araneta-Alijis Streets, Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City Sunday morning, August 11.

Police identified the fatality as Arnold Genevera, 39, of Calong-Calong, Zone 1, Barangay Singcang-Airport.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of Bacolod City Police Office, said that around 5:45 a.m., Kheno Nullas, 19, of Barangay Alijis, was walking along Araneta-Alijis Street when Genevera pointed a gun and declared a holdup to the victim.

The suspect took the victim’s cellular phone worth P7,000 and fled toward the city’s old airport.

Pico said the bystanders tried to chase the suspect and sought the assistance from the security guards of a plane ticketing office in the area.

“The security guards managed to corner the suspect, but the suspect fired his firearm which prompted the guards to retaliate and one hit the suspect on his back,” he said.

He added the suspect still managed to run, but was later discovered lifeless on Capricorn Street, JR Torres Subdivision, Barangay Singcang-Airport.

Police Station 8 is still conducting further investigation on the incident.
