BTAO urged to enforce traffic rules

BACOLOD City Councilor Cindy Rojas urged the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to strictly enforce all the traffic rules and regulation in all one-way streets in the city.

Rojas said majority of violators of Bacolod City’s traffic schemes include drivers of trisikads, tricycles, and ebikes.

She said the strict implementation of the city’s traffic rules is mainly for the purpose of ensuring the health and safety of not only the passengers, but also the drivers of motor vehicles.

Rojas noted that Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991, provides that every local government unit shall exercise the powers expressly granted, those necessarily implied therefrom, and those which are essential to the promotion of the general welfare.

Rojas said BTAO is the enforcement arm of the local government unit of Bacolod in ensuring that traffic rules and regulations are observed.

Rojas said Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, Chapter IV, Article 1, Section 35 (b), No. 4 also provides that every person driving a motor vehicle should maintain a reasonable speed through crowded streets.
