THE Philippine government will provide assistance to around 600 Filipino families who have lost their residency status in Israel and are facing deportation, MalacaƱang said on Monday, August 12.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the Duterte administration will extend help through the Department of Foreign Affairs.
"I'm sure the Secretary of Foreign Affairs will do something about it. Hindi natin pababayaan iyan (We will not neglect them)," the Palace official said.
Panelo made the remark after the United Children of Israel reported that 600 Filipino families could now face expulsion after losing their residency status.
Around 28,000 Filipinos in Israel work as caregivers and domestic workers.
The Filipinos, with the support of native Israelis, recently staged a protest in Tel Aviv against the policy of deporting Israeli-born children of migrants. (Ruth Abbey Gita/SunStar Philippines)
