I HAVE a treasury of friends I keep. They have been with me in many projects.
Alice Woolbright hosted lunch for Michael Go and me at Eddie’s. Cherry Callelero couldn’t make it because her sister passed away. We also missed John Domingo, who didn’t visit Cebu this year. We had a great time reminiscing about some amazing themed events we did for the American Chamber (Amcham) with pioneer members Eddie Woolbright, Knox Booth, John Taylor and Darrell Conine. Amcham enjoyed mileage through the efforts of Danny
Deen, Roy Daniel, Cristianne Washfi, Paul Flutti, Hans Hauri, Tim Wright, Jake Marquez, Roger Lim, Wilson Ng, Karl Nelson, Vince Colina, Bill Mallory and a few others. Events like “Honor Your Secretary,” Christmas projects, education and library linkages, leadership and membership initiatives were all successful.

Marco Polo Plaza Cebu has consistently showcased themed culinary events, the latest of which was “Swissness from A to Z,” an array featuring authentic Swiss cuisine.
Zontians at work
The Zonta Clubs of Cebu 1 and 2 are meeting regularly to prepare for the hosting of the 2020 Area Conference in Cebu. The theme supports the Zonta International thrust on ACT: Advocacy, Communication and Teamwork. We decided to adopt the slogan “Inform. Interact. Immerse.” The advocacy on tackling Violence Against Women and Child Marriages continues.
Congratulations to Pinky Chang who had accepted new challenging projects this year. Kudos to Christian Licen for a successful dissertation proposal, and to outstanding University of the Visayas alumna Dr. Matt Baguia. Hearty applause to Stella Bernabe’s stellar winning team!

This is partly due to some children’s pre-occupation with Netflix, iFlix, video streaming, online games, YouTube, Mobile Legends and more. Reading needs the proper mindset, atmosphere and concentration. Let us provide our children with interesting reading materials. The traditional silent reading still works, followed by interactive discussions. Oral reading helps in articulating sound and sense.
