LOCAL artists in Davao City were commissioned to undertake projects and given the opportunity to market their artwork during Art Hunt Davao 2019 last August 10 to 11, 2019.

The event, organized by Sanctuary Workshops and Trainings, was participated by around 100 local artists.

“Painting ang mostly nabenta, mayroon ding artisan crafts like architectural puzzles. May iba nakakjuha ng commissioned works that are larger,” Sanctuary Workshops and Trainings chief operating officer Amanda Fe Echevarria said in a text message to SunStar Davao Monday, August 12, 2019.

One booth at the event sold around P50,000 worth of artworks in a day.

“[This event] encourages the artists to keep on pursuing their artistic careers. The more artists we have creates a better chance for us to establish a strong creative economy,” she said.

One of the participants during the event was the Pintanao, a newly-formed group of artists in Davao City. They sold more than 30 artworks in two days and future art projects from guests during the event.

“Art Hunt was fun. It was a bazaar of artwork of the different local artists here in the city, wherein we meet and greet them share and our ideas in arts. It was not just all about visual arts, may music and food din,” Pintanao member and artist Kyoshi Rama said in an interview with SunStar Davao.

“The event helped us to boost our confidence, share our knowledge sa arts to other artist, it also helped us to market our artworks. Especially bago lang group namin sa art scene sa davao, akala namin mahirapan kaming mag-market. We didn’t expect na our group will be known agad sa Art Hunt,” he added.

Rama said he was able to display and sell some of his works ranging from P2,000 to P3,000 each.

Art Hunt Davao was held at Trinidad Greenhills Subdivision, Bugac, Barangay Maa. Organizers of the event said they are planning to make the first event an annual event in the city and be able to provide market access for both starting and known local artists in the city.
