IN A world where instant and fast food are the most easily available, healthier food options seem not only time consuming, but scarce. But in the heart of Davao City lies Soul Kitchen Co., a “grab and go” store where over a hundred healthy food and beverage variants is available for every Filipino, the young, old, those who are trying to lose or gain weight, build muscles, and even for lactating moms. The best thing is all food items have already been packed and prepared. You just need to pay, grab, and go.

Soul Kitchen Co. is owned by the Neighborhood Lifestyle Group founded by Davaoeños Jun and Mimi Tupas. Having humbly started in their home kitchen five years ago, Jun and Mimi Tupas are proud to note that Soul Kitchen Co. food and beverage items are now available in grocery stores and through food delivery partners like Food Panda and Kuya ni Juan and in their main store located at F. Torres street corner Mabini street, Davao City.

They sell cold-pressed juices, salad wraps, sandwiches, almond milks, grain bowls, smoothie bowls, coffee, and home-baked vegan bread and desserts, among others. My personal favorites are the power mix which is a very healthy dessert that every sweet tooth would love without the guilt and the mixed berry quinoa which is a nice start to transition from the usual rice and viand mix to a healthier meal that’s jam-packed with nutrition.

Mimi Tupas shares that she’s very hands on with their food business, adding that she’s mostly seen in the kitchen preparing the food herself, until she was joined by an assistant. She assured that everything they sell at Soul Kitchen Co. is made fresh daily.

Here are food options specially handpicked by Mimi Tupas, a certified Raw Vegan Chef, for every modern day Filipino.

*For those who want to lose weight: “We have Cleanse Packages, 3 Day Resets & Juice Cleanses. These all help you jump start to a healthier lifestyle.”

*For those who want to gain weight: “Increase calorie intake but still choose healthy. Load up on whole grains, lean proteins, and lots of healthy drinks. Gaining does not mean you binge on junk. Choose healthy even when trying to increase your body weight.”

*For those who want to build muscle: “Increase lean & high quality protein. These can be found in many of our dishes — avocados, lean chicken, soybeans, edamame, spinach, chickpeas, tuna or eggs.”

*For lactating moms: “Hydration. I’d recommend our cold-pressed juices & nutmilks. Our Chia puddings are also a great option. They are all rich sources of iron and vitamins.”

*For young Davaoeños: “I am amazed at how the youth now embrace eating clean. Salad wraps, smoothie bowls, & overnight oats.”

Being healthy is a challenging commitment. In this fast-paced world, not everyone has the time nor the patience to prepare healthy food. But the happy fact is that it is possible for people to enjoy clean and healthy food anytime of the day.
