Davao bets out to regain title

THE Davao City pintopplers will try to regain supremacy when the 5th Datba Araw ng Dabaw Classic Tenpin Open gets underway on March 11 to 14 at the NCCC Mall B3 Center lanes.

Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) president Virgilio "Billy" Magdale yesterday said the Davao players are out to redeem lost pride after a Manila player won the championship last year.

"Davao held the title for quite sometime and it was only last year that it was taken away from us," Magdale said, adding that players from Manila, Cavite and Cebu are coming to give locals a run for their money.

"The champion will pocket P30,000 while the next three placers will go home with P20,000, P10,000 and P5,000, respectively. They will also receive trophies. The fifth to seventh placers will receive P2,000 while the eighth to 13th placers will claim P1,000 and the 14th to 25th placers will get P500.

Magdale said participants will play the eight-game elimination round where the top player will gain the twice-to-beat advantage. The top 25 players after the eliminations will play another round of eight games to determine the next three placers who will join the No. 1 player in the final round.

The Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC)-meet will also award creatively-designed trophies to the winners. (MLSA)
