VICTORIAS Milling Company (VMC) and VMC Foundation are set for the 7th VMC Interschool Art Contest on September 14 and 21, 2019.

There will be on-the-spot competitions scheduled on September 14 at the Sidlakang Village in Dumaguete City for Negros Oriental qualifiers and in Project Orange, Bacolod City on September 21 for Negros Occidental students.

VMC is inviting elementary and high school students all over Negros Island to submit their entries for the 7th Interschool Art Contest not later than September 4, 2019.

This year’s theme “My Community” is in line with the company’s centennial celebration to instill among the young how VMC values the community and how involving the youth in their own communities will eventually empower them to have a stake in nation-building through the arts.

The competition, which started in 2013 and expanded to Negros Oriental in 2016, has become a venue for aspiring student artists to hone their craft, be recognized, and be given a chance to be part of a growing art community in Negros that will ensure continuity of our arts, culture and heritage.

There are two categories this year; Interschool Elementary for Grades 1 to 6 and Interschool Secondary for Grades 7 to 12.

Students can send their application forms along with a clear snapshot of their previous artwork to vmcartcontest@gmail.com and vmcart@yahoo.com before the deadline after which a pre-screening jury will decide on who will be invited to participate in the on-the-spot competitions scheduled on September 14 at the Sidlakang Village in Dumaguete City for Negros Oriental qualifiers and in Project Orange, Bacolod City on September 21 for Negros Occidental students.

A maximum of thirty students per category, per area will be pre-selected to join the competition based on their registration form and sample artwork submitted.

All art materials that will be used during the competition will be provided by VMC but participants may bring their own art tools subject to the approval of the organizers.

Ten semi-finalists per category will be selected after the Dumaguete and Bacolod on-the-spot competitions and all will automatically qualify for the Annual Summer Art Workshop as part of the continuing mentoring program of VMC.

Final Judging and Awarding will be on September 22 at Project Orange in Bacolod City.

Prizes are P20,000 in cash, a trophy and a computer package for the participating school for the elementary champion while the second and third placer will get P15,000 and P10,000 plus trophies respectively.

High school champion will bring home P30,000 in cash, a trophy and computer package for the school and the second and third place winners will get P20,000 and P10,000 plus a trophy. For more inquiries, please call 0995-9279186 and 09397200370.
