Councilman cuts head during drunken fight

A COUNCILOR of Barangay Togonon, Danao City, Cebu landed in the hospital after hitting his head on a rock during a fight with a motorcycle-for-hire (habal-habal) driver on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019.

The incident happened in Sitio Camanse at 10:30 a.m.

According to Capt. Roberto Hugo, deputy chief of the Danao City Police Station, the victim, Councilor Elvi Lauron Capin, 44, and his sparring partner, Jovy Medio Barbero, 30, were both under the influence of liquor.

Their argument stemmed from a confrontation that had happened in the past.

Capin reportedly grabbed a bolo, while Barbero grabbed hold of a piece of wood.

Capin tried to hit Barbero, but the latter was able to parry the blow with a punch that knocked down Capin, who fell and hit his head on the rock. Barbero also suffered a bolo cut in the arm.

Capin was rushed to a private hospital in Cebu City, while Barbero was detained in the police station.

The police official said Capin and Barbero have had a misunderstanding.

“The two have a longstanding feud. Then the two met while drunk that morning. That’s how the fight started. Then the councilor got knocked down and hit his head on a rock, which resulted in a cut,” Hugo said in Cebuano.

Barbero’s wife is Capin’s niece. (from AYB of Superbalita Cebu/PJB)
