Sun Life Financial Philippines, MyPhone and GCash recently teamed up to make financial security more accessible to the public. Signed at the Mynt Office Headquarters in Bonifacio Global City, the tie-up was made in view of the growing need for financial inclusion, making it easier for more Filipinos to access protection products that will ease the burden of financial losses particularly brought about by accidental death and dismemberment.

“We see insurance as another essential need and this kind rounds off or completes our financial business offering. We know that Sun Life is capable of providing that kind of service being the leader in the insurance market. And I think there’s a whole range of solutions that are possible. It’s not necessarily in one particular product,” Mynt chief executive officer Anthony Thomas mentioned in his speech at the event.

Through the tie-up agreement, Sun Life will provide personal accident (PA) insurance to MyPhone Pinoy App members. Members may avail themselves of the PA insurance through MyPhone’s Pinoy App and by activating GCash.

“When we talked about this two years ago, we were just happy that the Filipinos were given a chance to even understand what insurance is. Because a lot of them travel each day, they will always be at risk. Accidents do happen and when these happen, nobody is looking after them. For me, offering them this protection product is great. But I think what is even greater is the potential knowledge that they know they can rely on someone that will ease the burden of financial losses due to accidents. And the phone is one medium that can help them to easily avail of this protection product,” said David Lim, MyPhone chief executive officer.

For his part, Sun Life chief executive officer and country head Benedict Sison is hopeful that this alliance will work to further strengthen Sun Life’s efforts to further extend the company’s services to the middle markets. “We hope to make this partnership successful as it is one of the ways to push forward our mission to provide protection to every Filipino household,” Sison concluded.
