Murder suspect bolts Sarangani prov'l jail

ALABEL, Sarangani -- Police launched a hot pursuit operation Thursday against Muhamad Jafar “Tikboy” Maguid, who recently escape from the Sarangani Provincial Jail.

Maguid forcibly escaped from his cell at around 2 a.m. Thursday, according to a jail spot report.

Sarangani Governor Miguel Dominguez and Provincial Police Director Restito Gatira said in a joint statement that guards on duty Cesar Abdon and Benjamen Tondog have been placed under administrative and criminal investigation.

Dominguez also ordered a full investigation of the incident.

Provincial Warden Renato Purisima submitted himself to investigation with three other outgoing guards from the 4 p.m. to 12 midnight shift.

A jail spot report said the jail guards conducted routinary head count at 12 midnight and reported the number of inmates was complete.

At 5:30 a.m., inmate Cris Golada reported that Maguid had escaped from his detention cell by sawing off a steel bar.

Maguid is facing charges of murder, arson and robbery with violence against and/or intimidation of person.

Maguid has been detained at the provincial jail since August 2009.
