FILSINO Selection held off Talisay City, 96-93 as PD888 Tropics Restobar overpowered BBC, 89-68 at the start of the round robin semis of the 10th TKP Memorial Basketball Cup at Po Hang gym, Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

RB Chua hit a corner trey to give Filsino a 96-91 cushion with 20.9 seconds left and eventually sealed the game with Talisay’s Ryan Hugnatan completed freethrows with 6 seconds left before the final buzzer.

Chua could have iced the game in the ensuing play but missed on an unguarded point blank layup.

Filsino have extended the game if Sayon had hit an open three point attempt but bounced off his shot at the rim as the buzzer sounded.

Earlier in the fourth quarter, Kenneth Montalvo made a layup off a steal to give Talisay City its last lead at 84-82 at the 5:54 mark but Filsino went on an 11-2 run courtesy of Mark Binguan’s 6 points and a Mark Sabusap’s layup to put a a 93-86 advantage.

Chua delivered a game-high of 22 points, backstopped by Bontigao 17, Binguan 12, Gonzalez 9, Sabusap 8, and Bobby Yap 7.

Sayon and Hugnatan paced Talisay with 19 and 18 points, Montalvo contributed 14, Mark Papa and Lagura had 8 points apiece, and Benjo Ballo-Allo 7.

Meanwhile, Tropics showed its seriousness in its title retention bid by outscoring BBC behind Michael Rosales and Hermie Derwill combined 24 points.

Aling Cervales hit a buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter to give BBC a 21-20 lead and continued firing by blanking Tropics for 3 1/2 minutes in the second but was not able to take advantage.

Tropics broke their silence at the 6:35 mark after racked up a 10-0 run on a back to back triple by Popoy Jamero and Ryan Agena. With momentum on shifting to Tropics’ side took the first half 42-31.

In the third, BBC launched an 8-0 run blanking Tropics anew for 3 minutes to draw closer at 42-39 on Diomedes Mariano 2 free throws. But suddenly BBC found themselves on disadvantage as they were reduced to four players as teammate Henry Subebe committed two successive fouls and eventually fouled out with 6:32 remaining in the quarter.

Tropics immediately took advantage pouring six straight points within a minute to take a 12-point lead and extending further to 61-43 on a Warren Alintano layup.

Tropics banked on Rosales and Derwill 12 markers apiece, Alintano added 10, Oquindo and Garcia with 8 points, Popoy Jamero and Agena 7 points each.

Kempee Lagrazon topscored BBC with 14, Cervales chipped in 10, Jay Uy hit for 8 points and Cresmark Dayumat had 7 points.
